Committee Details & Chairs


*Awards* The Awards Committee is responsible for soliciting nominees for NYSTAA achievement awards and emeritus recipients as well as the Professional Development Grants. They screen nominees, select award recipients, and notify professional development grants winners. Members present the awards at the annual conference. This Committee meets once a year. Committee members must be Distinguished Service Award recipients. *By-Laws* The By-Laws Committee is responsible for reviewing and proposing changes to NYSTAA’s by-laws as needed. In addition, the chair of the By-laws Committee will also serve as NYSTAA’s parliamentarian, who will provide interpretation of the by-laws, rules and procedures at all NYSTAA events and meetings. *Conference* The Conference Committee is responsible for the planning, organization, and promotion of the annual conference. They are responsible for conference registration, securing vendors and sponsorship from member colleges, and finalizing the conference schedule. They are also responsible for the logistical components of the conference such as: selecting the menu for meals and breaks, arranging a first-timers reception, coordinating the hospitality suite and networking excursions. The Conference Committee meets 3-4 times a year; at least one of those meetings is at the conference site. *Issues* The Issues Committee organizes the workshop sessions and all speakers for the annual conference. Much of the committee’s work is done by recruiting workshop participation, deciding on workshop proposals, and facilitating the individual presentations. This committee meets 3-4 times a year and at each meeting converses about the aforementioned topics while also setting aside time to discuss current transfer issues.		Thomas D. *Membership* The Membership Committee is responsible for soliciting eligible individuals for membership and publishes an annual membership directory. *Newsletter* The Newsletter Committee creates “NYSTAA News,” the electronic newsletter for the organization. This is a platform for all members to share information related to the transfer process. The newsletter is published bi-annually in the fall and spring semesters so that it is available for members in the first 2-3 weeks of the respective academic semester. The Newsletter Committee members compile articles and updates, edits and creates the newsletter which is then shared on the NYSTAA website. *Retention & Research* The Retention & Research Committee collects and disseminates data related to the retention of transfer students. They research best practices as it relates to the retention of transfer students. The Committee researches topics related to transfer student issues that need further study as requested by the Executive Board. They also provide recommendations for program implementation via the NYSTAA newsletter. *Scholarship* The Scholarship Committee solicits applications, reviews and awards NYSTAA scholarships to current year associate degree graduates from member two year colleges who are transferring to member four year campuses. Although much of the committee’s work is completed without the need for formal meetings, committee members do meet once a year to select the scholarship recipients. The Scholarship Committee is also responsible for fund raising activities in support of the scholarship effort, especially the Silent Auction at the annual conference. *Technology* The Technology Committee addresses technology needs and usage as it pertains to the distribution of transfer information and resources, utilizing the NYSTAA website and social media to accomplish this. It also oversees NYSTAA’s Listserve. Along with the respective NYSTAA Chairs, the Technology Committee is responsible for ensuring the information distributed through these outlets is accessible to members in a timely manner along with being current and accurate.
