A Message From Our President

Dear Current and Prospective Members,

As we launch a new year, I am honored and excited to serve as your 2025–2026 NYSTAA President as we walk together into our 33rd year.

Reflecting on the successful conclusion of the 2024–2025 academic year, I extend my deepest gratitude to our outgoing President, Anne Gilligan, for her dedicated and inspiring leadership. I also want to acknowledge past Presidents, immediate and past Executive Board members, and all committee members whose tireless efforts have enabled NYSTAA to continue thriving for 32 years.

Looking ahead, I anticipate a vibrant year of collaboration and professional growth. Together, we will continue to support, guide, mentor, and lead our transfer and college students. Our shared commitment to improving student engagement, increasing access to resources, and enhancing learning outcomes will remain at the heart of our work.

We were honored to welcome leaders in higher education and Senator Webb to our annual conference at SUNY Binghamton, where we were reminded of the vital importance of access to education as a foundation for a better future. Research reveals that transfer students often face unique transitional challenges when adjusting to new academic environments, which can impact their academic performance. With the number of transfer students steadily increasing (National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, [2023]), it is more important than ever for higher education professionals to remain prepared, relevant, and resilient.

Let us continue to educate, empower, and elevate both ourselves and the students we serve in this ever-evolving landscape of higher education.

As you browse the website or attend a meeting, whether in person or virtually, we encourage you to spread the word about NYSTAA, invite colleagues to join, and consider serving on a committee. As the saying goes, it takes a village, and many hands truly make light work. Your involvement strengthens our organization and ensures its continued success.

In partnership,

Lisa Millsaps-Graham, PhD, MPH, MS

President, NYSTAA 2025–2026
